What’s a gel blaster?

A gel blaster fires small, water-soaked gel balls rather than paintballs, foam darts or plastic airsoft BBs. If you’ve played another team combat game, the idea will feel familiar: use the cover, watch where the other team is moving and try to complete the objective.

The equipment and game rules depend on the operator. Staff explain how to use the blaster, how hits count and what happens when you’re hit before the first round starts.

What’s a game actually like?

You could be defending a base, trying to reach a flag or playing a round where the aim is to eliminate the other team. A barrier might give you a good view of one route while leaving you exposed from another. Working out where to move is part of the game.

Look at the venue’s photos to get a feel for its setup. A compact arena with closely spaced obstacles plays differently from a larger outdoor field, and the organiser can explain which sessions suit your group.

Trying it for the first time?

Tell the venue you’re new and ask what the session includes. You’ll want to know whether the blaster, gel balls and required protective equipment are all supplied, and whether ammunition is limited or replenished during the games.

Arrive in clothing and footwear suited to the playing area, following the venue’s advice. Listen to the briefing and ask staff to show you anything you’re unsure about before heading out.

Booking for a group

Check whether you’ll have a private game or join other players, how long you’ll actually spend playing and what age range the session is designed for. If you’re organising a birthday, ask about space for food and whether parents can stay or take part.

The name of the activity alone won’t tell you how the day runs. Speak to the operator about the equipment, playing area and games they offer.
